“Superb chamber music playing”
The Bath Chronicle
Winners of the Enterprise Music Scotland Award 2010 - 2012, the Sutherland Duo are an eclectic and energetic duo. Both former Park Lane Group Young Artists, they have each performed at prestigious venues such as the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, St Martin in the Fields and Cadogan Hall, and have given live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM. They were also invited to perform in the historic Bath Pump Room for its 300th Anniversary celebration concert, and have toured some of Scotland's most far-flung venues.
As part of the EMS residency project Harriet and Christina are working with composer Gareth Williams on a new commission written and dedicated to their duo. Harriet and Christina are currently recording their debut CD together which will an all-Russian disc featuring the works of Prokofiev and Tchaikovsky. Their repertoire spans more than 300 years of western classical music, ranging from the elegance of the French Baroque, the searing emotional intensity of Brahms, and the wild gypsy rhythms of Sarasate, to the exciting music of our times. Harriet and Christina met at London's Royal Academy of Music, and subsequently discovered a shared Highland heritage in the neighbouring Sutherland glens of Strath Halladale and the Strath of Kildonan.
